Cat Clicker Training Secrets
How a Clicker can become your cats best friend
Cat clicker training is AMAZING. When I came across the whole cat training issue, and made a decision to give it a try with my own two awesome cats - Sammi and Isla... I realized there has to be a uniform technique to balance the levels of communication between you and your pet cat/cats.
It is true that a clicker can be ignored or even scare your cat at first, but your cat clicker training sessions need to be about connotations. Meaning, you need to make your cat understand a 'click' means they did something good, and will be rewarded for it.
It isn't as simple as it sounds at first, but kidding aside - it is not as hard either.
The first tools I used to start training my cats:
- A simple Clicker
- Plastic bowl
- A special extensionable wand. Or make your own...
- A plastic spoon - to handle small chunk food
I first got Pryors 'Cat Training Kit' which already included the book (Getting started, Clicker Training for Cats by Karen Pryor), i-clicker, treat and the instruction guide. The extensionable wand I bought seperate, but now I saw they carry a 'clicker-wand' in the same product! cool.
I wanted to make the least mistakes possible once I started cat clicker training sessions with Sammi and Isla. That is why I was willing to invest in a starting guide that will save me time and aggrevation...
I decided to order the 'Cat Training Starter Kit' for clicker training. All this to start you off with everything you need to evaluate and ask yourself... Is this for me or not?
Everything in the package was very useful... except the treat that my cats hated. But that was no problem to replace.
I thought investing $16-17 on a chance to open a new horizon for me and my cats was well worth it. We get to train and play at the same time, but more importantly, my relationship with my cats improves on many levels...
I also bought the training wand so everyone knows it's for training... And it's extendable too, so it fits with the clicker in my pocket :)

Aggression is in your cats nature: behaviors like stalking, chasing, leaping, pouncing, swatting, and biting are all common displays, and are always a major component of any play session. If you get your cat from a shelter or another home, it probably has been trained by it's mother. But kittens that aren't so lucky come to you before that.
